According to British newspapers and Inside EVS, the autopilot function of two Tesla cars is being credited with saving 8 passengers from being crushed when a large 400-year-old oak tree fell during the recent Storm Dennis that hit the United Kingdom recently.
Two different families were driving different Tesla Model X cars in the same area on opposite sides of Highway A31 in Dorset, England. As the tree was about to fall on the road, the autopilot features got activated and pulled on the emergency brakes of both cars. The tree fell across the highway – and the hoods of both Teslas. Some passengers experienced minor injuries but there were no fatalities.
