An Amazon truck crashed into a home at the bottom of a hill in hilly Pittsburgh’s Mt. Washington neighborhood. Police said the driver parked the truck on a hill when the emergency brake apparently failed while the driver was delivering packages.
The truck then drifted down the street and struck a gas meter and a house on Virginia Avenue around 5 p.m. Officials said the truck also clipped a car before hitting the house.
This brings up a critical safety tip for drivers and shops, always inspect the parking brake no matter if it has a manual or automatic transmission. Most manufacturers have specifications and adjustment procedures for the parking brake. Even if the car is an automatic, the parking brake should be engaged so corrosion will not seize the parking brake mechanisms.
