Minivan Goes Grassroots Following Brake Failure

Four people are counting their lucky stars after the brakes on their minivan stopped working Saturday afternoon. The van was driving south along Chermont Road in Belmont County,Ohio, toward Lansing when it crashed, narrowly missing a residential domicile.

Deputy Jason Schwarck with the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office states there were no skid marks, confirming the hypothesis that the accident was a mechanical failure.

“It apparently lost its brakes, traveled up a driveway, hit a trailer, then struck an outbuilding that was holding some lawn mowers,” he says. “It finally came to a stop when it hit the wall.”

The four people inside the van were all treated at the scene and luckily nobody had to be taken to the hospital.

Schwarck says the vehicle was recently purchased. Charges are pending based on further investigation. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in this crash.
