Brakes Fail on Bus in India: Injures 18

An Indian Municipal Transport Services bus sped out of control and crashed due to brake failure Thursday says The Times of India. The bus rammed into a roundabout, injuring 18 passengers in it. Ten of the injured had to be admitted to Civil hospital. However, the driver has not been charged with any violation. The bus was supposedly ascending down a hill when the brakes went out, causing the bus to swerve and ultimately crash.

“The driver saved the 23 passengers aboard from grievous injuries. The driver later informed city police control room about the incident. Police arrived soon, along with a 108 ambulance. The ambulance carried the injured to Civil hospital. The accident disrupted traffic at the spot, as one side of the boundary on the circle was broken by the impact,” stated a local police officer.

A medical team at Civil hospital was quoted saying that out of the 18 passengers were brought to the hospital for treatment after the incident,10 of them had to be admitted for further treatment. Among those injured were 9 women – including 3 college students – and 9 men.
