Two Boston firefighters were injured on Tuesday when an onboard oxygen cylinder on their SUV exploded following a gruesome crash due to brake failure. Reports say the firefighters were responding to an accident on a local freeway when the brakes when out causing them to crash into a nearby snowbank. This crash somehow ruptured the internal oxygen cylinder creating a catastrophic explosion.
Currently the two firefighters being treated at a local clinic for minor injuries are expected to be OK, according to EMS1 News.
The firefighters were wearing proper equipment according to protocol, protecting them from all the exploding flying debris.
The Boston EMS supervisor, who was driving to a training meeting, was not injured in the collision, fire or explosion.
