Seven people have been hospitalized and one person is dead following a runaway tractor trailer crash that occurred this past Friday in the college town of Ithaca, NY.
A witness, by the name of Lindsey Pou, was conveniently at a prime vantage point when the crash occurred. She said the driver did not sound the horn, and she did not hear any screeching brakes.
Besides barreling through 8 people, the truck still had enough momentum to smash through the wall of a restaurant, puncturing the front corner of it’s wall, thus crippling it’s foundation and nearly tearing it to the ground.
There were a number of diners sitting in the restaurant, and more employees were arriving for the evening shift when the accident occurred. Luckily, a vast majority made it out unscathed.
As for the driver, he sustained minor injuries and was being questioned at Ithaca police headquarters, police said Friday. The cause of the crash and whether speed was a factor were being investigated.
