According to sources, a massive crash took place in Alberton, South Africa this morning after a truck suffered a brake failure and plowed through an intersection filled with vehicles. The crash killed two people total and left eighteen people with serious injuries.
One man who was interviewed after the crash explained how he managed to emerge unscathed: “I was in the middle lane and I could see in my rear view mirror this huge dust and cars being hit one by one. Cars were hitting me from the back and the sides.”
Another person interviewed claimed to have seen the crash unfold from a different vantage point: “I heard cars hooting and the truck kept going. It plowed into cars and then there was smoke and silence.”
Since the crash, the truck driver has admitted to negligent driving and has been arrested.
The Transport Minister of South Africa Dipuo Peter, has recently made a statement on the incident:
“There was no way the truck could have stopped.”
Peters says while the driver has been arrested, authorities need to act against the real criminals, the owners.
“The owners of the truck must be held responsible and they should be charged with what the driver will be charged with.”
Three people involved in the accident are still in a critical condition in hospital.
