A three-car accident Monday afternoon in Maine sent three people to the hospital and backed traffic up for almost an hour after a gold Chevy Cavalier reportedly struck the back of a Kia Sportage, which then struck the back on an RV that had stopped for pedestrians.
According to eyewitnesses, the Cavalier had experienced total brake failure, causing the vehicle to slam into the Kia.
The nine-year-old passenger in the Cavalier and the two occupants in the Kia were sent to the hospital; the young child suffered a minor head injury and the pair in the Kia suffered injuries that local Police Chief Troy Cline said were normal for people who have been in accidents where the air bag was deployed.
The three people in the RV were uninjured and the vehicle took minimal damage. The other two vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
“They were both transported to (the hospital) to have their injuries checked,” Cline said. “They reported difficulty breathing, which is standard with injuries from airbag deployment.
