Police are investigating the possibility of brake failure in an accident that took the life of a Beverly Hills Police officer and injured another last Friday. According to reports by the LA TIMES, the officers were responding to an “unknown trouble call” when the crash occurred about 8 a.m. near Loma Vista Drive and Robert Lane.
LAPD Chief Charlie Beck declined to provide details about the circumstances leading up to the crash, citing the ongoing investigation, but called the collision with a trash hauler ‘catastrophic’.
The second officer, who was just three months out of the police academy, was transported to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with the driver of the bus and are said to be both in critical condition but will survive the injuries.
The names of the officers had not been released, pending notification of family, but sources said the officer killed was a 16-year department veteran and father of two.
