7 Year-Old Camper Struck By Truck Due To Brake Failure At Summer Camp

How does something like this even happen? What has changed since I went to camp?

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department (Fl.) and Fox News, a 2004 GMC pickup truck hauling two buses loaded with campers and counselors suffered a total brake failure when attempting to drive downhill yesterday.

Once the truck lost its brakes, it went on a downhill rampage and continued on into a field where 3 campers and one counselor were playing. The 35 year-old counselor was able to get two campers out of the line of destruction, but one camper was immediately struck head-on by the large truck.

The counselor suffered minor injuries and the child had to be airlifted to the nearest hospital. So far police have no charged anyone and it seems that unlikely the alcohol was a factor.

The incident is currently under investigation.
