A double deck bus carrying 60 school girls from a private school in East Thailand crashed due to a brake failure yesterday. The horrendous crash brutally killed 2 school teachers and 13 students but somehow the driver managed to stay alive and flee the scene before police arrived.
The bus was headed for the small seaside town of Pattaya. As it drove along a downhill road in the early morning, it somehow lost control and slammed into an 18-wheeler truck that was coming the other way. The impact of the crash was so powerful that it blew out all the windows on both floors of the bus and slid it off the side of the shoulder.
“We suspect there might have been a problem with the brakes, because the bus looked old,” police said. “But we’re not ruling out the possibility that the driver might have been asleep.”
Another double-decker bus carrying male students from the same school was following the girls’ bus, but it was not involved in the accident.
