Fifteen people were maliciously killed this past Tuesday in Lagos, Nigeria after a fuel tanker crashed, flipped over and burst into flames. According to National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) spokesman Ibrahim Farinloye, the initial body count following the accident was only 9. But between Tuesday and today, they picked up at least 6 more bodies.
The accident happened on the Apapa-Oshodi expressway, which connects the city’s international airport with the seaport, and caused long delays on one of the cities busiest routes.
A total of 4,246 people were killed while 20,709 were injured in 6,274 road crashes across Nigeria in 2012, and according to the Federal Road Safety Commission spokesman Jonas Agwu, “Commercial vehicles account for 30 percent of road accidents and 40 percent of deaths on Nigerian roads.”
So if you’re ever in Nigeria, stay off the roads!
