In endurance racing like the 24 Hours of Daytona, the brake pads will have to be replaced at least once during the race. Changing the pads is a well choreographed pit stop and the pads can be changed without having to worry about abutment clips, shims or other noise reducing hardware.
Most teams will bed pad sets during practice so they are fully cured. Some brake manufacturers will even run pads on a dyno to same time at the track.
