Yonkers,NY- Kalie, of the Bronx, was immediately killed after a 2002 Jeep driven by Roseanne Piccirilli, 55, paraded forward from its parking lot spot and plowed through an intersection, striking multiple vehicles before finally jumping a corner curb and crashing into Kalie and her sister on a sidewalk. The accident occurred at the height of an annual Octoberfest and fundraiser at Coyne Park, where St. Paul the Apostle Church was hosting the second night of a planned three-day carnival.

Criminal charges had long been considered unlikely in the case, since Piccirilli, a sixth-grade teacher at St. Paul the Apostle School, had cooperated with police and was not under the influence of any substances. Investigators instead turned to the SUV itself, authorities said, finding that the brakes had infact malfunctioned. The finding, which could be important in any potential civil case related to the incident, means that prosecutors will probably close the case without pressing charges against Piccirilli.

A spokesman for Yonkers police also declined to comment, stating that they had completed their investigation and that the case was now the jurisdiction of the district attorney. Piccirilli, who did not return a message left Thursday, has only said publicly that she and her family were praying for Kalie Gill’s family and her sister, Lindsey, who was left in critical condition but is currently stable in rehabilitation.
