38-year-old Swain County native, Danny Taylor, was driving a fully loaded truck down a steep grade on Williamson Road in North Carolina when the accident happened. State Troopers say crews were busy doing bridge work at the intersection with Conleys Creek Road. When Taylor’s brakes failed, he swerved the truck to avoid hitting them. The truck crossed the bridge and slammed into a bank. Troopers say Taylor died at the scene.

In memory of Taylor, the town held a 5k run/walk on New Years Eve to support the local youth baseball and softball programs.
