Virgin Australia Supercars racer Macauley Jones said that the time he pressed the brake pedal in his Holden ZB Commodore and realized his brakes had failed until he came to a crashing stop in the tire wall was the longest seven seconds of his life.
According to Supercars.com, the 25-year-old driver said “The brake line had gotten a cut on it from coming into contact with a moving part on the rear drive shaft. You feel helpless, a bit of a passenger. Skipping across the top of a sand trap and not feeling like you’re slowing down at all. Staring at the fence you will inevitably be hitting. Seven seconds doesn’t sound like a long time, but in those circumstances it feels like a lifetime.”
The crash in practice was captured live on television.
