Last week Ford announced the recall of nearly 115,000 Bronco Sports and Escapes due to a brake problem.
The issue, related to the vehicle’s brake linings, results in an increase in braking effort required by the driver while simultaneously increasing the vehicle’s expected stopping distance (in one test, by almost 100 feet) thereby escalating the risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA. The rear brake-caliper linings were not manufactured to the correct friction coefficient and were deemed below specification.
