Shena Hardin got off easy. She drove on a sidewalk to avoid stopping for a school bus. Hardin must wear a sign that says, “Only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid the school bus.” While wearing it, she’ll stand near the location of the crime for an hour per day on only two days. This is a new form of public shaming some judges are using.
The judge should have taken a page from the book they use to punish drunk drivers in Ohio. For some repeat offenders, they are required to have a “party plates” that signifies they have been convicted of a DUI and can only drive from home to work.
It is a common practice in Ohio to harass these drivers by yelling “PARTY, WUHOO!” and making the sign language symbol for getting drunk when they are at a stoplight. It is a very effective form of public shaming.
Hardin should be required to have a special licence plate that identifies her as an idiot. This would help other drivers and police to identify her as a “not too bright” driver. There should also be plates to signify if a driver was in an accident because they did not maintain their brakes. This public shaming penalty might stop drivers from ignoring the signs their car needs service. Call it a “brake plate.” Other drivers could shout, “LOOK OUT! THEY DON’T HAVE BRAKES!”
Here is a video of Hardin using the sidewalk as a detour:
