A Lagos bound bus experienced brake failure killing three destitute people and leaving two others critically injured at about 1:30 pm yesterday.
Witnesses told local news outlets that a Mitsubishi Canter lost control while trying to avoid collision with an a truck that reportedly swerved towards it but lost control in the process.
One of the witnesses, Mrs. Tinuade Okunade, said the victims were bums who sit on the side of the road that are known for attempting to scalp a few extra dollars.
“The incident occurred at about 1:30 this afternoon. The vehicle that killed the victims was trying to dodge a trailer that swerved towards it but the brakes failed and it rammed into the median where the beggars were seated,” Okunade narrated.
The identities of the victims were yet to be named as at the time of filing the report but the driver of the bus was said to have fled the scene in order to escape an overbearing and severely angered mob.
When local members of the media visited the scene, the vehicle had been towed to the premises of the Lagos traffic agency in Anthony, while the staff of agency were seen trying to alleviate some traffic caused by the accident.
The injured were also said to have been taken away by men of the Lagos Emergence Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) who also handled the deceased.
