According to the owner, the dealer claimed the brake pad backing plate was loose. So the answer is “D.” To solve the problem, the dealer replaced the pads and machined the rotor. In my opinion, chances are that the it was the caliper and caliper bracket was loose. The cyclical nature of the sound was probably due to runout in the rotor.
