Brake failure sends pickup crashing into Molalla store

Portland Tribune

The True Value Hardware store in Molalla is temporarily closed after a pickup crashed into the front of the building Monday morning.

At about 10:43 a.m. March 4, the driver of the truck, Steve Anselmo, was pulling into the store parking lot at 114 Grange Ave. when the truck’s brakes failed. The truck crashed into the building, smashing in a store plate glass window damaging part of the concrete structure and knocking down display racks inside the store.

“My brakes weren’t working, and it’s not even my rig,” Anselmo said.

There were no injuries to people inside the store and employees were told to stay out of the building until it was cleared for safety.

According to Molalla police Sgt. Chris Long, Anselmo intended to shop at the store and tried to avoid hitting the building. No citations were issued.
