14 Dead in Nigeria After Gruesome Truck Crash

Fourteen people died last night in an Nigerian town after a civilian bus was struck by a industrial truck.

Witnesses say the truck was barreling down the street attempting to stop but couldn’t due to severe brake failure. The truck ultimately struck the bus in an intersection and killed every single person on board.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Red Cross Society took the bodies to Irrua Specialist Hospital, Irrua.

The Chairman of the Edo Central branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society Mike Odiahi, who was at the scene, confirmed the accident to media crews.

“Fourteen dead bodies have been recovered and they have been taken to the mortuary at Irrua Specialist Hospital,” he said.

Road accidents take place frequently in Nigeria due to reckless driving, bad road conditions and overloading. On an average, over 1,000 people are killed on roads each year in the country.
