Yonkers, NY- Brake failure was deemed the cause of a fatal accident that occurred a few weeks ago killing one and injuring another. Coincidentally, both that were struck happened to be sisters that had recently immigrated to America.
The driver of the car was a schoolteacher by the name of Ms. Roseanne Piccirilli who claimed brake failure at the time of the accident and so far has not been charged with any kind of crime whatsoever. Speaking on TV in the US, local priest Fr James Healy, who spoke with Ms Piccirilli after the freak crash, said: “She said the car wouldn’t obey when she was putting her foot on the brake.”
Currently, the crash is under investigation by the Yonkers Police Department and is being spearheaded by Detective Lieutenant Patrick McCormack, who described their probe as “an open accident investigation at this time” and indicated it would be unlikely that Ms Piccirili would face criminal charges.
According to The Herald , Lindsey Gill (12), the sister who survived the crash, has still not been told her beloved sibling was killed in the same accident. Her parents, Damien and Karen, originally from Fenagh, Co Leitrim, have been keeping a close eye at Lindsey’s hospital bedside ever since.
On the bright side, her father Damien, said his daughter was expected to eventually make a full recovery and had this to say about Lindsey: “She’s a tough one. She’s a fighter. She has a lot of broken bones. She has been under sedation and has been in pain.”
Damien also stressed that he had no hatred toward the driver of the car. He was quoted saying “They don’t know what happened, but I feel very sorry for her. It’s something she’ll have to live with, too.”
Besides striking the two sisters, the car was said to have struck five other vehicles, three of them being occupied, while injuring two thirteen year-old girls.
What do you think about this horiffic crash? Does the driver deserve a punishment? If not who does?
