We have all been there before, it is older crap box Toyota Corolla, Matrix or Vibe with rear disc brakes and it is now time to put it back together. But, there are these annoying clips that attach to the pads and guide pins.

You may think that these clips can be left off because the driver will not know the difference. You are wrong. These clips do prevent noise, but they also position the pads on the guide pins and piston. Not installing them can result in noise, a soft brake pedal and caliper damage. So get out the needle nose pliers and get to work. My best advise is to install new guide pins and clips and throw away the olds ones. It is a $15 investment that can save a lot of time and trouble.

Spring no. 1. 

1. Hook the spring upper portion to the guide pin no.

2. Hook the spring lower portion to the center hole of the pad.

Spring no. 2

1. Hook the spring upper portion to the guide pin no. 1.

2. Hook the spring lower portion to the center hole of the pad. 27.

3. Fix guide pins with clip (a) Insert the clip end into the hole of the guide pin no. 1. (b) Insert the other clip end into the hole of the guide pin no. 2. The clip should be fully inserted into the guide pin no. 1 and No. 2. If not, the guide pins will come off and the caliper will be damaged when the brakes are applied.
