These images are from a 2016 KIA Soul. The driver first complained that their brakes were making noise. When the car was parked inside the shop, the right rear wheel locked up and the vehicle could not be moved.
When the wheel was removed, half of the inboard pad was missing. When the outboard pad was removed, the friction material fell off the backing plate. It is easy to see the corrosion on the backing plate where the friction material attaches with glue.
The customer was lucky the pads seized in the caliper bracket while it was at the shop and not on the road.
