This past week there were several vehicle recalls in the news. These recalls were dramatized with headlines that could make stock prices drop. But, in reality these recalls were not a big deal for two reasons. First, the number of vehicles recalled were very small. Second, two of the three recalls concerned were manufacturing defects that occurred during assembly.
HONDA 2003-2004 Odyssey and Pilot: Failure of a locking mechanism that secures the key in the ignition until park is selected allows to remove their keys without putting the vehicle in park. 43 indecent have been reported. Under this criteria, any vehicle made before 1986 should be recalled.
HYUNDAI 2012 Veloster: This recall only concerns 4,490 vehicles and is due to a missing seal or poor lubrication of the emergency brake cables. The recall only concerns manual transmission cars. Hyundai is replacing the cables. 4,490 cars to Hyundai would be like Ferrari forgetting the fuel cap on one car. No big deal.
LAND ROVER LR2+Evoque: This recall is for only 70 vehicles where the software for a calibrated impact wrench was on the wrong setting. This caused the caliper bracket bolts to be under torqued.
Nothing to see here, move on.
